Your first day
A placement visit is a short time in the water with an instructor, so we can suggest the right level before your swimmer joins a class.
- 01
Step 1: Book a placement visit
Choose a time online, or call the front desk. Tell us your swimmer's age and the level you think fits, or tell us you are not sure.
- 02
Step 2: Come in and rinse
Shoes go in the cubbies, your swimmer rinses at the showers and you wait on the bench until the instructor calls.
- 03
Step 3: A short time in the water
Your swimmer gets in with an instructor, on the step or within arm's reach, while you watch through the window. A swimmer can get out at any time.
- 04
Step 4: Hear the level
The instructor suggests a level and a cap color, tells you what they saw, and shows you the classes with room on the schedule.
- 05
Step 5: Register for a class
Register at the front desk or from home online, and the place is held.
In the water
What the instructor looks at
There are no right answers at a placement visit. The instructor notices how a swimmer gets in, how they float with support, how they kick and whether they like putting their face in, and picks the level where the first class will fit.
How your swimmer enters the water
Floating with support
Kicking and moving through the water
Blowing bubbles and getting the face wet

Bring
What to bring to the placement visit
A towel
One for your swimmer, and a dry one for the drive home.
Goggles
If your swimmer likes them. We have a few pairs to try.
Swimsuit or swim shirt
Swim shirts are welcome in every class, and a swimsuit under it is fine.
A grown-up
A parent or guardian stays at the pools. Brothers and sisters can wait in the lounge.
After the visit
A towel and a word
When the visit is done, a swimmer gets a towel and a cup of water from the front desk while the instructor talks through what they saw.
